Lyrics of "The Scientist" by Coldplay

Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry
You don't know how lovely you are

I had to find you
Tell you I need you
Tell you I set you apart

Tell me your secrets
And ask me your questions
Oh, lets go back to the start

Running in circles
Coming up tails
Heads on a science apart.

Nobody said it was easy
It's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard

Oh, take me back to the start.

I was just guessing
At numbers and figures
Pulling the puzzles apart

Questions of science
Science and progress
Do not speak as loud as my heart

Tell me you love me
Come back and haunt me
Oh, and I rush to the start

Running in circles
Chasing our tails
Coming back as we are

Nobody said it was easy
Oh it's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be so hard

I'm going back to the start

Les Misérables - Do You Hear the People Sing?

Lyrics: "Do You Hear the People Sing?" - Les Misérables

DO YOU HEAR THE PEOPLE SING?
From the French Musical "Les Misérables" (1980)
(Alain Boublil / James Fenton / Herbert Kretzmer / Claude-Michel Schönberg)

Recorded by:
David Burt; Chicago Musical Revue; Hal Fowler; Michael Maguire;
Royal Philharmonic Orch.; Sydney Male Choir; Anthony Warlow;
Dave Willetts.

Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!

Will you join in our crusade?
Who will be strong and stand with me?
Beyond the barricade
Is there a world you long to see?
Courfeyrac:
Then join in the fight
That will give you the right to be free!

Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!

Will you give all you can give
So that our banner may advance
Some will fall and some will live
Will you stand up and take your chance?
The blood of the martyrs
Will water the meadows of France!

Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!

À LA VOLONTÉ DU PEUPLE
du Musical "Les Misérables"
(Alain Boublil / Jean-Marc Natel / Claude-Michel Schönberg)

Michel Sardou (France)

A la volonté du peuple
Et à la santé du progrès,
Remplis ton cœur d'un vin rebelle
Et à demain, ami fidèle.
Nous voulons faire la lumière
Malgré le masque de la nuit
Pour illuminer notre terre
Et changer la vie.

Il faut gagner à la guerre
Notre sillon à labourer,
Déblayer la misère
Pour les blonds épis de la paix
Qui danseront de joie
Au grand vent de la liberté.

A la volonté du peuple
Et à la santé du progrès,
Remplis ton cœur d'un vin rebelle
Et à demain, ami fidèle.
Nous voulons faire la lumière
Malgré le masque de la nuit
Pour illuminer notre terre
Et changer la vie.

A la volonté du peuple,
Je fais don de ma volonté.
S'il faut mourir pour elle,
Moi je veux être le premier,
Le premier nom gravé
Au marbre du monument d'espoir.

A la volonté du peuple
Et à la santé du progrès,
Remplis ton cœur d'un vin rebelle
Et à demain, ami fidèle.
Nous voulons faire la lumière
Malgré le masque de la nuit
Pour illuminer notre terre
Et changer la vie.

"Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by Israel Kamakawiwo'Ole

Dedicated to searchers & dreamers, of every age: “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”

by/par Loveson G. Flower

by/par Renzo Schröder (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9KHo9z86rA)

Beloved Israel Kamakawiwo'Ole sings his renowned medley of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and "What a Wonderful World." Israel was among the most known and celebrated of Hawaiian performers with a kind and gentle spirit that is evident in his touching melody. He tragically died in 1997 at an early age (38) and has been sorely missed by his many adoring fans.

According to Wikipedia: "The Hawaii State Flag flew at half-staff on July 10, 1997, the day of Kamakawiwoʻole's funeral. His koa wood coffin lay in state at the Capitol building in Honolulu. He was the third person in Hawaiian history to be awarded this honor, and the only one who was not a government official. Approximately ten thousand people attended the funeral."

The 64 photos of Rainbows were selected from Google and Bing images searches for "rainbow" to help visualize Israel's soaring words and melodious Spirit that still touches and inspires our deep places many years after he has gone. Thank you Israel Kamakawiwo'Ole.

How Great A Man Was Thomas Jefferson?

"Single acts of tyranny may be ascribed to the accidental opinion of a day; but a series of oppressions, begun at a distinguished period, and pursued unalterably through every change of ministers, too plainly prove a deliberate, systematical plan of reducing us to slavery."
-Thomas Jefferson

How Great A Man Was Thomas Jefferson?
From Judy Andreas
1-12-11

Thomas Jefferson was a very remarkable man who started learning very early in life and never stopped.
At 5, began studying under his cousin's tutor.
At 9, studied Latin, Greek and French.
At 14, studied classical literature and additional languages.
At 16, entered the College of William and Mary.
At 19, studied Law for 5 years starting under George Wythe.
At 23, started his own law practice.
At 25, was elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses.
At 31, wrote the widely circulated "Summary View of the Rights of British America" and retired from his law practice.
At 33, wrote the Declaration of Independence.
At 33, took three years to revise Virginia's legal code and wrote a Public Education bill and a statute for Religious Freedom.
At 36, was elected the second Governor of Virginia succeeding Patrick Henry.
At 40, served in Congress for two years.
At 41, was the American minister to France and negotiated commercial treaties with European nations along with Ben Franklin and John Adams.
At 46, served as the first Secretary of State under George Washington.
At 53, served as Vice President and was elected president of the American Philosophical Society.
At 55, drafted the Kentucky Resolutions and became the active head of the Democratic-Republican Party.
At 57, was elected the third president of the United States.
At 60, obtained the Louisiana Purchase doubling the nation's size.
At 61, was elected to a second term as President.
At 65, retired to Monticello.
At 80, helped President Monroe shape the Monroe Doctrine.

At 81, almost single-handedly created the University of Virginia and served as its first president.

At 83, died on the 50th anniversary of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence along with John Adams
Thomas Jefferson knew because he himself studied the previous failed attempts at government. He understood actual history, the nature of God, his laws and the nature of man. That happens to be way more than what most understand today. Jefferson really knew his stuff. A voice from the past to lead us in the future:
John F. Kennedy held a dinner in the white House for a group of the brightest minds in the nation at that time. He made this statement: "This is perhaps the assembly of the most intelligence ever to gather at one time in the White House with the exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone."
When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe. Thomas Jefferson

The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not. Thomas Jefferson

It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world. Thomas Jefferson

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them. Thomas Jefferson

My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government. Thomas Jefferson
No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. Thomas Jefferson

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government. Thomas Jefferson

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. Thomas Jefferson

To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical. Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson said in 1802: I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property - until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.

PamplamooseMusic - La Vie En Rose

Eyes that gaze into mine,
A smile that is lost on his lips—
That is the unretouched portrait
Of the man to whom I belong.

When he takes me in his arms
And speaks softly to me,
I see life in rosy hues.
He tells me words of love,
Words of every day,
And in them I become something.
He has entered my heart,
A part of happiness
Whereof I understand the reason.
It’s he for me and
I for him, throughout life,
He has told me, he has sworn to me, for life.
And from the things that I sense,
Now I can feel within me
My heart that beats.

In endless nights of love,
A great delight that comes about,
The pains and bothers are banished,
Happy, happy to die of love.

When he takes me in his arms
And speaks softly to me,
I see life in rosy hues.
He tells me words of love,
Words of every day,
And in them I become something.
He has entered my heart,
A part of happiness
Whereof I understand the reason.
It’s he for me and
I for him, throughout life,
He has told me, he has sworn to me, for life.
And from the things that I sense,
Now I can feel within me
My heart that beats.

Grégory Lemarchal - SOS D'Un Terrien En Détresse

Grégory Lemarchal - SOS D'Un Terrien En Détresse / SOS from a Land In Distress

dod l'enfant do

traduction en anglais / translation from French
of "SOS from a Land In Distress" by Grégory Lemarchal

why do I live, why, I die?
why do I laugh, why I cry?
here is the S.O.S
from a land in distress
I never had feet on the ground
I would like better to be a bird
I'm wrong in my skin

I like better to see the world upside down
It is best seen from above
from above
I always confused life
with the comics
I have desires for a metamorphosis
I feel something
that attracts
that attracts
attracts me to up high

In the great lottery of the universe
I have not drawn a good number
I'm wrong in my skin
I do not want to be a robot
Metro - work - sleep

why do I live, why, I die?
why do I laugh, why I cry?
I believe it's to catch waves
come from another world
I never had feet on the earth
I would rather be a bird
I'm wrong in my skin

I would like better to see the world upside down
I would rather be a bird
sleep little child sleep

-------------------------------------------------

Almost everyone in the French speaking world knows the remarkable story of Grégory Lemarchal, who captured every heart with his angelic voice and gentle spirit and then tragically died after reaching an early pinnacle of success.

He died at 24 in 2007 of cystic fibrosis, a hereditary disease which affects the lungs and other organs. He sold over 1 million albums and won the very popular, French "Star Academy." This was a televised, months-long, live-in talent competition / reality show in 2004. With his illness, it was said he sometimes collapsed back-stage, needing oxygen and medical treatment. Yet on stage, he sang like an angel with incredible range and feeling. The audience was unaware of his physical struggles.

How was he able to sing with such force and majesty when he had such trouble breathing and living? He died awaiting a lung transplant. I believe he was a living miracle.

In this photo & video melange, he is singing his near final performance for the Star Academy before being chosen by the judges and by over 80% of the votes of the French-speaking, world-wide television audience. The words of the song seem to describe his life - never really having his feet on the earth, being attracted to up high, having been given an unlucky lottery ticket by the Universe, and finally singing: sleep little child, sleep (like a premonition of his early demise).

With beautiful images of rainbows and nature, he seems to be an angel seeing the world as he described in the song: from a birds view, from way up high where he was pulled to be, for the purpose of catching waves from another world.

Thank you so very much, Gregory. You were such an inspiration, seemingly a real angel that came to earth for too short a time to remind us all what life truly means. Good bye, dear friend to humanity, and thank you once more for all you gave.

ON AGING by Larry Miller

ON AGING, ENJOY THE RIDE. THERE IS NO RETURN TICKET
by Larry Miller

Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids? If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about aging that you think in fractions.

'How old are you?' 'I'm four and a half!' You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a half, going on five! That's the key..

You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.

'How old are you?' 'I'm gonna be 16!' You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life ! You become 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony.YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!

But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There's no fun now, you're Just a sour-dumpling.. What's wrong? What's changed?

You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on the brakes, it's all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50 and your dreams are gone...

But! wait!! ! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think you would!

So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and make it to 60.

You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!

You get into your 80's and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30; you REACH bedtime. And it doesn't end there. Into the 90s, you start going backwards; 'I Was JUST 92.'

Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. 'I'm 100 and a half!' May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!

HOW TO STAY YOUNG

1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay them.

2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.

3.Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever, even ham radio.. Never let the brain idle.. 'An idle mind is the devil's workshop.' And the devil's family name is Alzheimer's.

4. Enjoy the simple things.

5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.

6.... The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love , whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever.Your home is your refuge.

8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it.. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9. Don't take guilt trips.. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.

10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity..

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Dalida - "Pour Ne Pas Vivre Seul" / "For to Not Live Alone"

Dalida "Pour Ne Pas Vivre Seul" Lyriques
(French - see English Lyrics translation below) :

Pour ne pas vivre seul
On vit avec un chien
On vie avec des roses
Ou avec une croix
Pour ne pas vivre seul
On s'fait du cinéma
On aime un souvenir
Une ombre, n'importe quoi

Pour ne pas vivre seul
On vit pour le printemps
Et quand le printemps meurt
Pour le prochain printemps
Pour ne pas vivre seul
Je t'aime et je t'attends
Pour avoir l'illusion
De ne pas vivre seul,
De ne pas vivre seul

Pour ne pas vivre seul
Des filles aiment des filles
Et l'on voit des garçons
Épouser des garçons
Pour ne pas vivre seul
D'autres font des enfants
Des enfants qui sont seuls
Comme tous les enfants

Pour ne pas vivre seul
On fait des cathédrales
Où tous ceux qui sont seuls
S'accrochent à une étoile
Pour ne pas vivre seul
Je t'aime et je t'attends
Pour avoir l'illusion
De ne pas vivre seul

Pour ne pas vivre seul
On se fait des amis
Et on les réunit
Quand vient les soirs d'ennui
On vit pour son argent,
Ses rêves, ses palaces
Mais on a jamais fait
Un cercueil à deux places

Pour ne pas vivre seul
Moi je vis avec toi
Je suis seule avec toi
Tu es seul avec moi
Pour ne pas vivre seul
On vit comme ceux qui veulent
Se donner l'illusion
De ne pas vivre seul

---------------------------------------- ---------------------

Dalida - English translation / Traduction anglais de "For Not to Live Alone"

For to not to live alone
One lives with a dog
One lives with roses
Or with a cross
For to not to live alone
One makes the cinema
One loves a memory
A shadow, anything

For to not to live alone
One lives for the Springtime
And when the Springtime dies
For the next Springtime
For to not to live alone
I love you and I wait for you
To have the illusion
Of to not to live alone,
Of to not to live alone

For to not to live alone
The girls love the girls
And one sees the boys
Marrying the boys
For to not to live alone
Some others make children
Of children who are alone
Like all the children

For to not to live alone
One makes cathedrals
Where all those which are alone
Hang on to a star
To not to live alone
I love you and I wait for you
To have the illusion
Of to not to live alone

For to not to live alone
One then makes some friends
And they come together
When comes the troubled nights
One lives for his money,
His dreams, his palaces
But what was never made
A coffin with two places

For to not to live alone
Me I live with you
I am alone with you
You are alone with me
To not to live alone
One saw what he wants
To give the illusion
Of to not to live alone

She collected 19 number one hit singles to her name in four languages (French, Italian, German, and Arabic) and has a long list of top 10, and top 20 hits in French, Italian, German, Spanish and Arabic, and accumulated myriad top selling singles and albums largely, in France, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Spain, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Austria, Greece, Canada (Quebec), Russia, Japan, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, and Egypt, spanning over forty years... (with) Worldwide sales... over 130 million...

Personal life - Despite enormous career success, Dalidas private life was marred by a series of failed relationships and personal problems. Her first husband, Lucien Morisse, committed suicide several years after her divorce. Two of her lovers, Luigi Tenco and Richard Chanfray also took their own lives.

Death and Legacy - On May 3, 1987 Dalida died as a result of an overdose of barbiturates, leaving a suicide note reading "Life has become unbearable ... Forgive me." Dalida was buried in the Cimetière de Montmartre, Paris, and a life-size statue of the singer stands outside her tomb.

Since her death, Dalida has become a cult figure to a new generation of fans. In 1988, The Encyclopedia Universalis commissioned a poll which was eventually published in daily newspaper Le Monde, the aim of which was to reveal personalities that had the greatest impact on French society. Dalida polled second, behind Général de Gaulle"

An After Death Experience - Is this what it's like?

Bruce Springsteen - Streets Of Philadelphia Lyrics:

I was bruised and battered and I couldn't tell
What I felt I was unrecognizable to myself
I saw my reflection in a window
I didn't know my own face
Oh brother are you gonna leave me
Wastin´ away
On the streets of Philadelphia

I walked the avenue 'till my legs felt  like stone
I heard the voices of friends vanished and gone
At night I could hear the blood in my veins
Black and whispering as the rain
On the streets of Philadelphia

Ain't no angel gonna greet me
It's just you and I, my friend
My clothes don't fit me no more
I walked a thousand miles
Just to slip the skin

The night has fallen, I'm lyin’ awake
I can feel myself fading away
So receive me brother with your faithless kiss
Or will we leave each other alone like this
On the streets of Philadelphia

From wikipedia/Bruce_Springsteen: "Springsteen ... won an Academy Award in 1994 for his song "Streets of Philadelphia", which appeared on the soundtrack to the film Philadelphia. The song, along with the film, was applauded by many for its sympathetic portrayal of a gay man dying of AIDS"

Growth's Miracle

"The New Frugality: The Organic Gardener" from Time.com

video from: http://www.time.com/time/video/player/0,32068,19853953001_1892513,00.html

Growth's Miracle
-----------------

Organic Farming's the key.
Hope that it's my destiny.
Hands in earth. Loved vegatables.
Understand what's worth to know.

Invest where wisdom does show
What is best is what does grow:
Plants, insects and animals;
Relationships, love to pull.

Study, think, work hard and dream.
Lovingly let infants scream
Until there's no more to cry.
Then they'll feel caring's love sigh.

Become teacher of the earth;
Of the wonder, of love heard;
Of the songs each has inside
Love's students do teach each time.

If they are just listened to;
If we care they'll trust it's true.
Like newborn babies' wide eyes
Before forlorn wounded cries.

Before developed defense.
Which in war's also offense.
How stop cycle violence?
Growth's miracle, Loving's dance.
To Love pull must Love invest
........ and trust Love's best.

Look of Love

Many eyes of a School of Fish / Beaucoup de yeux d'une École des Poissons

Now I'm on my way to home,
But started very late.
Found an hotel to stay alone.
Daisy will have to wait.

16 hundred photographs
We took of the wedding.
Beaming wonder's tears and laughs,
The Look of Love did sing.

Like a school of fish does see
With many, many eyes.
Then from Barracuda does flee,
Each one, on every side.

We live our lives in parallel
Though at the same event.
Life gives our sight to share and tell
What experience sent.

Watching the photos of others
Then all mixed up with mine,
Made deeper knowing of lovers -
Their every aspects shine.

Time, angles and perspective
With other differences;
Did shine on worlds our Love would give
To each others hearts then
And teach how Love can mend.

Christelle et Patrice Mariage

Patrice et Christelle,
Monsieur et Madam Bérerd

avec ses enfants,
Candice et Max

Marriage Vows
---------------
I'm here at my hotel,
"Le Manoir de la Forêt;"
After two days of hell
Driving so far to play;

To help Patrice and Christelle,
To observe their marriage,
Their complice and their vows,
Their turning to new page.

They've been together now
At least for 12-years long.
They've chosen to make vows
For reasons of their own song.

Which has rhythm of own.
Others must just observe.
We must let loving's song
Sing love as trust's deserved.

We can hope only that we
Might help as witnesses.
As they're not eloping,
But share their light with us.

As their photographer,
I hope to show to them
How beautiful they are;
So love might grow even
For old lovers and friends.
Your love lifts everyone.
Thank you for what you've done.

After Wedding's Song
--------------------
In the morning after all
Has been said and done,
After tears and laughter called
Sent from Wedding's Song;

After all effort and plans;
After what was made;
After saw the care from friends
And family that day;

After heard moving service,
Inspired ceremony,
With words and music to all bless
Towards our higher being;

After making sacred vows
Before the world and God;
After realizing somehow
Our commitments were good;

After wild celebrations,
Fine dining, shows and dance;
After laughter's libations -
Fine wine, champagne, romance;

After all is memory
Becoming now a dream;
Then Love calls so Spirit sees
That we did sing Love's hymn
So we would bring Love home.

Mohammad Ali's Life Recipe - How he wanted to be remembered

MUHAMMAD ALI INTERVIEW WITH DAVID FROST - 1974

David Frost:
What would you like people to think about you when you’ve gone?

Mohammad Ali:
I’d like for them to say: “He took a few cups of love.
He took one tablespoon of patience,
One teaspoon of generosity,
One pint of kindness.
He took one quart of laughter,
One pinch of concern.
And then, he mixed willingness with happiness.
He added lots of faith,
And he stirred it up well.
Then he spred it over a span of a lifetime,
And he served it to it to each and every deserving person he met.”

David Frost:
Mohammad Ali, thank you very much!

Hard Luck - Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain

Here is short clip from "Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain" in the spirit of the character, Amélie - to inspire, to believe, to love - even when things seem darkest and without hope.

This is a scene after a temper tantrum by the "homme de verre" (man of glass), a sometimes bitter and cranky old man with such brittle bones that he can never leave his house for fear of serious injury. He has spent the last 20 years alone inside his apartment painting and re-painting his yearly rendition of Renoir's "Luncheon at the Boating Party" (see below). This is a painting of a bright, social life exactly opposite from his own. This is a wonderful metaphor of how we spiral in circles, repeating old patterns over and over, until we can evolve and grow.

He has discussed with Amélie the "fille avec le verre d'eau" (girl with glass of water) in the center of the Renoir painting who seems all alone and lonely amidst the social party - much like Amélie is in her life - trying to help her break out of her introvert shell while she is able, before she becomes like him.

In this scene he receives a second, home-recorded, video tape secretly made and sent from Amélie - who is trying to show him (and us) the wonders of life and ways other "handicapped" and wounded people have somehow found the courage to deal with their losses and problems. We're inspired by the poor, old, black man with "Hard Luck" who, without a leg, dances a delightful jig.

There is an old America saying: When given a lemon, make lemonade. Perhaps we can remember and believe that "Hard Luck" is still Luck. Somehow everything is perfect, and we will one day understand how everything fits together as if it was meant to be.

Pierre-Auguste Renoir's "Luncheon at the Boating Party," 1881
http://www.mart.trento.it/UploadDocs/182_Renoir___Luncheon_at_the_Boating_Party.jpg

"Amélie is a 2001 romantic comedy film directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and starring Audrey Tautou. Its original French title is Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain ("The Fabulous Destiny of Amélie Poulain"). Written by Jeunet with Guillaume Laurant, the film is a whimsical and idealized depiction of contemporary Parisian life, set in Montmartre. It tells the story of a shy waitress who decides to change the lives of those around her for the better, while struggling with her own isolation."

Quotation and movie poster from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amélie

I cannot recommend this movie too highly. It is a wonderful portrait of our secret broken lives and how best to heal and grow and love. It is a artistic masterpiece being nominated for 5 Academy Awards and winning many other awards including Best Film at both the European Film Awards and César Awards. I have watched it many, many times; and am always moved by its message of hope, by its beautiful colors and characters, and by its sparkling clear mirror of what I believe our lives are really about.

Amelie - Le Moulin (Medley of scenes & music, "Le Moulin," from the movie - Mélange de scènes et de musique, « Le Moulin, » du film).

Tracy Chapman - All That You Have Is Your Soul

Tracy Chapman
'All That You Have Is Your Soul"

Oh my mama told me
'Cause she say she learned the hard way
She say she wanna spare the children
She say don't give or sell your soul away
'Cause all that you have is your soul

So don't be tempted by the shiny apple
Don't you eat of a bitter fruit
Hunger only for a taste of justice
Hunger only for a world of truth
'Cause all that you have is your soul

Well I was a pretty young girl once
I had dreams I had high hopes
I married a man he stole my heart away
He gave his love but what a high price I paid
All that you have is your soul

So don't be tempted by the shiny apple
Don't you eat of a bitter fruit
Hunger only for a taste of justice
Hunger only for a world of truth
'Cause all that you have is your soul

Why was I such a young fool
Thought I'd make history
Making babies was the best I could do
Thought I'd made something that could be mine forever
Found out the hard way one can't possess another
And all that you have is your soul

So don't be tempted by the shiny apple
Don't you eat of a bitter fruit
Hunger only for a taste of justice
Hunger only for a world of truth
'Cause all that you have is your soul

I thought, thought that I could find a way
To beat the system
To make a deal and have no debts to pay
I'd take it all, Id take it all, I'd run away
Me for myself first class and first rate
But all that you have is your soul

So don't be tempted by the shiny apple
Don't you eat of a bitter fruit
Hunger only for a taste of justice
Hunger only for a world of truth
'Cause all that you have is your soul

Here I am, I'm waiting for a better day
A second chance
A little luck to come my way
A hope to dream, a hope that I can sleep again
And wake in the world with a clear conscience and clean hands
'Cause all that you have is your soul

So don't be tempted by the shiny apple
Don't you eat of a bitter fruit
Hunger only for a taste of justice
Hunger only for a world of truth
'Cause all that you have is your soul

Oh my mama told me
'Cause she say she learned the hard way
She say she wanna spare the children
She say don't give or sell your soul away
'Cause all that you have is your soul

All that you have
All that you have
All that you have
Is your soul
